On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, William Floyd Humphrey Sr. Loving husband and father of six children passed away at the age of 85. Bill was born on June 23, 1934 in Knoxville, TN to Walter and Willie Mae Sharp Humphrey.
He joined the Navy in 1952 and while away in boot camp he would write loving letters to Lois and would address them as already married.
On May 31, 1953 he married Lois Annette Laugherty Humphrey. They raised four daughters and one son.
While in the Navy he was deployed to Vietnam where he received life threatening injuries and was hospitalized for a long period of time. He returned home to his family and continued his recovery aided by his wife, Lois. For wounds received in action he was awarded the purple heart.
Bill loved to work with his hands. His favorite past time was watching westerns and wrestling. He loved, Friday Night Smackdown! His favorite music was Elvis Presley and he was a collector of all things.
He was known for his straight talk compassionate spirit and quick wit. His laughter was contagious. He loved having coffee in the mornings with his wife and loved bird watching.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Walter and his mother, Willie Mae, his two sisters, Betty Lorraine Newman and Lillie Humphrey Carmichael, his brother Bobby Humphrey and his daughter Vicki Humphrey. He is survived by his wife Lois, his daughters, Gina, Rebecca, Sherry, Hope and his son Bill Jr. as well as his brother Walter Humphrey Jr., his sister-in-law Jessie Laugherty Pilant and his Brother-in-law Samuel Laugherty.
He has six grand children, Maren Annette Humphrey Rivera, Justin Nicholas Humphrey Blea, Shannon Marie Humphrey Blea, Taylor Humphrey, Kyle Humphrey and Lauren Thomas as well as seven great grand children.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Heritage Funeral Home at 425 E. Central Texas Expressway in Harker Heights Texas from 10:30 am-Noon, Burial to follow at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen Texas. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made in our fathers memory at your local food bank.
