Stephanie Gayle Grissom, 52, passed away on August 8, 2022. She will be laid to rest in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas.
Stephanie was born on April 9, 1970 to Michael Dennis Ratts and Cheryl Johnson in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born into a military family, she especially loved living in Alaska and England. Stephanie and her family ended up settling in Killeen, Texas where she graduated from Killeen High School, class of 1988. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor.
In 1990, Stephanie was married to Jeffrey Flick. Their son Donovan Michael was born in 1991. In 2001, as a single mother, she was proud to own her own house. She was later remarried to Daniel Grissom and the two shared four years together.
Stephanie’s career as a teacher included time teaching English at Huntsville Penitentiary, elementary special education at Moody ISD, and English and psychology at Ellison and Gateway high schools in Killeen. After medically retiring from her career as an educator, she worked as a free lance reporter for the Harker Heights Herald.
Hobbies she enjoyed included reading, playing her piano, and watching cooking shows and “cheesy” old horror movies. Stephanie spent her life spreading love, positivity, and humor to her students, friends, and family.
She was preceded in death by her fiancé, William Rankin of Killeen, Texas.
Stephanie was survived by her son, Donovan of Pittsfield, MA; her mother, Cheryl Mees of Mission, TX; her father, Michael Ratts of Weatherford, TX; her brothers, Dennis of Copperas Cove, TX and Michael of Weatherford. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory several nieces and nephews.
