Roque D. Villarreal, age 71, formerly of Wichita Kansas, passed away on Friday May 15, 2020 after a lengthy illness at his home in Killeen Texas. He was born June 4, 1948 in Edinberg Texas, to the late Roque C. Villarreal and Martha D. Villarreal.
Dad started working at a very young age by shining shoes and then working in the fields picking bags of cotton described as “bigger” then he was. He then worked as a commercial and residential painter, establishing Villarreal Painting in the late 70’s, continuing to work for himself till 2006 while working for others throughout his career, finally retiring in 2017. He enjoyed old country music from the likes of Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, and Merle Haggard, just to name a few. Many memories we have of the BBQ’s and all the animals that sacrificed their lives for our kitchen table. Dad always had a story of his childhood, and crazy days growing up in South Texas. He met the love of his life, our mother, Rosa Escobedo in 1965 and eloped in February of 1966, beginning a love story that lasted 2 months shy of their 52nd wedding anniversary due to Mom’s death, but lasting 54 years for Dad. Dad never recovered from losing Mom and couldn’t wait to be reunited with her.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Rose E. Villarreal, a daughter Rosita Elvida Villarreal, granddaughter Elaina Rose Castilleja, brothers Baldemar Villarreal I, Mario Villarreal, and sister Guadelupe Elder.
