Obituary

Robert Benjamin Hale, 65, passed away on May 2, 2021. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday May11, 2021 at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. A Remembrance Celebration will follow at American Legion Post 573 (225 Cox Dr., Harker Heights).

Robert was born on January 3, 1956 to V.E. and Elva Hale in San Antonio, Texas. He developed an interest in everything mechanical at a young age and made it a lifetime hobby and career. He excelled in repairing anything and everything, and he loved building and tinkering. Robert enlisted in the United States Army January 12, 1973 in San Antonio, Texas. He started as a Supply Sergeant and eventually reclassified to Motor Transport Operator. He culminated his 20-year career at Ft. Hood, Texas with the 3/41st Mechanized Infantry Battalion where he retired, January 31,1993 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his 20 years of service, he was awarded the BRONZE STAR MEDAL; ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL with 4 bronze oak leaf clusters; ARMY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL; GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL(6th award); NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL with 1 bronze service star; SOUTHWEST ASIA SERVICE MEDAL with 3 bronze service stars; NCO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RIBBON with numeral 3;  ARMY SERVICE RIBBON; OVERSEAS SERVICE Ribbon with numeral 3; KUWAIT LIBERATION MEDAL - SAUDI ARABIA; DRIVER AND Mechanic Badge with Driver "W" Bar; EXPERT Badge with Rifle Bar; KOREA DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL.

After retiring from the Military, Robert was able to spend time doing the things he had grown to love. Those passions included things like traveling, including cruises (both on boats and his Harley) with his friends and family. As an avid animal activist, he spent time rescuing and taking in many cats and dogs, as well as promoting animal adoption. Robert honored fellow Veterans and Service members through his volunteer work, including riding with the Patriot Guard Riders, Wreaths for Vets, and participating in various charity rides. He was a Certified Master Mechanic and Fabricator. He could be found frequently out in his workshop turning out various woodworking and welded pieces. Lastly, Robert spent his free time riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle any chance he got. He most recently belonged to the Horny Toad HOG Chapter, based out of Temple, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his father, V.E. Hale, and mother, Elva Hale. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Virginia Hale, son John Hale and wife Julie, son Nathan Hale and wife, Kristen and chosen children Tim H Sharp Jr., Tammy S Doyle, Jason McDaniel, Andrew Gibbons and wife Carolyn, and Mathew Sharp and wife Carolyn. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Shawn Hale, Elora Hale, Ethan Hale, and Dylan Hale as well as Tiffanie Krasner, Alec Doyle, Dakota Doyle, Douglas Crow, Jennifer Parra, Angelica Davis, Kevin Smith, Hunter Smith & Rayden Sharp, and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Kay Ford, nephew Jason Carlisle and wife Dawn, and their 4 children.
