Ollie “Big O” was born on May 19, 1949 to Oliver Monroe Garner Sr. and Ruby Bea Beaty Garner in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In his younger years he traveled due to his father being in the military. They made their home in Killeen in 1965. Ollie attended Nolan Jr. High and then graduated from Killeen High School in 1968. Through his High School years in Killeen, he was a Varsity Football player. Ollie defensive tackle, where his big heart is clearly seen. When Ollie would knock over a player, he would go to them, help them up and say, “I hope I didn’t hit you too hard.” Ollie was a big guy 6’1 and 278 lbs. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy Fan. Ollie attended Central Texas College and studied law enforcement. He wanted to go into the military like his father, but they wouldn’t accept him due to a hearing problem. He managed 7-11 stores until he became a reserve police officer for the city of Nolanville. Ollie joined the Killeen Police Department on May 1976, and retired January 2006 due to health reasons. Ollie’s life was the police department. He loved to serve the City of Killeen, and if it wasn’t for his health issues, he would still be with KPD. In January of 1982 he became the training officer for Cindy Sullivan Raynes, and they became lifelong friends. In 2009, Ollie was always there for anyone that ever needed him. Cindy took care of him, due to her love for him, from 2013 until he passed on March 13, 2022. His favorite thing to do was watch police shows on TV, due to his being bed bound for a number of years. Ollie also enjoyed playing with his dogs Dolly and Sweetie, and he was just happy to be alive.
Oliver Monroe Garner Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Ruby Garner and his brother, Curtis Garner.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his best friend, Cindy Raynes; brother, Ray Garner (Rita); sister, Joyce Garza; brothers and sisters from the Killeen Police Department; and blessed with an aunt, nieces and nephews and many friends.
