Matthew was born on August 8, 1978, to Thomas Perry Saiz and Shirley Ann Herrera Saiz in Landstuhl, Germany. Matthew has a few names that his friends and family called him…Mateo, Matt, Matthew and Matz. He was an amazing son, brother, father to his children and grandchildren. He had many friends who absolutely loved him as his family does. He was a man with such kindness such love for family and friends and was loved by so many. He was the life of the get- togethers with family and friends. Those who knew him would say he was a bit of a prankster, the one who made everyone laugh, who helped everyone before himself. He had a great love for God and his Catholic faith. He had a wonderful personality and was a goofy kind of guy. His children Adelaida, Pepper and little Matt and Adelaida’ Adrian were his joy and his grandchildren Aayden and Alahnnii had his heart. The love and patience he had for these two little ones was an incredible gift. He was their “Gampa”. We are so thankful he had the time to build beautiful relationships with his children and grandbabies. He would go to the ends of the earth for them and us. When he face-timed at night, their words were, “I love you Gampa.” To his daughter and son, he would say, “I love you, sleep with the angels and sleep with my heart.”
As for his friends, they knew him well…he was quirky and funny making everyone laugh especially when playing chicken foot, gaming or just hanging out. What amazing times he had with his beloved brother Thomas, his beloved cousins, aunt Monica and uncle in New Mexico. They were so important to him. He also had a 3-year-old buddy, another Ayden who loved him and we can hear him say, “I love you Matt.”
Matt cared so much, helping young people with Youth Ministry at St. Joseph’s he was much involved in the conferences and events participating with the teens. His last words to the teen were, “Don’t be a follower, be yourself, you don’t have to pretend or follow the crowd, be a leader and follow God. He will get you through the hard times you will face.”
From the moment of Matts conception, his life was a celebration and will continue to be. As his parents, brother, children, his family, his friends, we can only say, “We love you Matt and wish we had five more minutes with you.” Thank you for always being there for us, taking care of us…you did an awesome job. It’s 8:18 and you are loved! We will live for you keep your memory alive. You will always be with us, especially during the Sacrifice of the Mass as we receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ. For now, as you always, told us, “Sleep with the angels and sleep with our hearts.”
