Edward Sylvester Smith Jr. passed away peacefully on March 11, 2021 at Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights, Texas. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM Thursday, March 25, 2021 with Military Honors at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Edward was born on September 23, 1946 to Elmer Smith and Bernice Cordella (Lewis) Smith in Philadelphia, PA. Upon graduation he entered the military as a Metal Body Repair (Welder). Edward’s military achievements and honors includes Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award) and Army Overseas Ribbon (4th Award). Edward was stationed in Germany and Korea. Edward was a pillar in his community, with the help of his fellow brothers Knight of Columbus, he would help clean up the neighborhoods in his community. Edward was Veterans Outdoor Advocacy. Edward has experienced first-hand the therapeutic benefits of the outdoors and is passionate about ensuring other veterans and family members experience the benefits while teaching basic hunting and fishing skills.
Edward retired from the military after a hard 24 years. After retiring from the military Edward selfless service landed him working for the Army Department of Logistic (DOL) department as a Welder. Countless years as a civil service employee Edward decided to retire for the second time. Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family.
Edward Sylvester Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Bernice Smith; his second wife, Yong Suk Smith and his son, Kerry Smith.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Chong Smith; his daughters Terry, Kimiko and Nicole Smith; his son Edward Smith; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
