David Earl Swords,79, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021. David was born on July 12, 1941 to John Henry Swords and Elvie Lee Wyatt Swords in Guntersville, Alabama. David graduated from Marshall High School in Guntersville in 1961. David was known by classmates as “Skeeter” and played on the Varsity Football, Baseball and Basketball teams at Marshall High school. Shortly after graduating David joined the Army and was stationed twice in Korea and twice in Germany. On his first tour of Korea, David met Suk Kyong Oh and married on May 5, 1964 at the Korean embassy.
David served for 20 years in the Army, retired Sergeant First Class in 1981 at Fort Hood, Texas. David taught college classes at Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas before working as a civilian contractor in Fort Hood, Texas retiring in 2005. David loved the outdoors, fishing and collecting Indian artifacts from local rivers, lakes, and ranches. David would vacation in Alabama once a year and would take vacation cruises with his wife Suk Swords.
David was preceded in death by George Henry Swords (brother age 3) and his parents John Henry and Elvie Lee Swords.
David Earl Swords has two brothers, Newell Wade Swords of Sioux City, IA and Lonnie Hoyt Swords of Guntersville, AL. Two sisters, Janice Lee Charlton of Guntersville, Al and Francis June Bentley of Sierra Vista, Az
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years Suk Swords of Killeen, TX and his 3 sons Sonny Swords of Foster City, CA, John Swords of Temple, TX and Grant Swords of Killeen, TX. and 6 grandchildren.
