Brian Bulmer

July 6, 1953 ~ August 16, 2020 (age 67)

Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the departure of Brian Francis Bulmer, a loving husband, father, and proud Navy veteran. After 67 incredible years filled with laughter, devotion, and service, he passed away on Sunday, August 16th, 2020.

Born in 1953 in Reno, Nevada, he was adopted by Harry and Berta Bulmer of California. Harry was a Pearl Harbor survivor and proud World War II veteran, having served honorably in the U.S. Navy. Upon completion of his military service, he settled the family in San Jose, California where Brian spent his happy childhood.

Inspired by his father’s service in the Navy and seeking adventure shortly after high school, Brian enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972. His first assignment brought him to Yokosuka, Japan where he met his first wife Mariko. Although they did not stay together, they shared a lifelong friendship as well as two sons, Bryan and Kristian. His son Bryan would follow in his father’s footsteps and continue his legacy of service by joining the Navy as well as serve in the Air Force Reserves.

Brian had a distinguished career in the Navy, earning decorations for combat and meritorious service in Vietnam. After his time in the military, he began a second career with IBM and continued with Dell, which eventually brought him to Austin, Texas. This is where he met his second wife Yuyan and stepdaughter Misty. They shared a beautiful life abundant with his favorite hobbies like fishing, music, Asian culture, and lots of art. Brian loved to draw, paint ceramics and statues as well as build model planes, ships, and classic cars. He also had a great love for dogs, especially his best buddy Macy, who passed away earlier this year.

Brian is preceded by his parents, Harry and Berta. He is greatly missed and survived by his wife, Yuyan; stepdaughter, Misty; sons, Bryan and Kristian, and dear friend Mariko.

Brian will be remembered fondly as a loving husband, father, friend, proud patriot, and US Navy Vietnam Veteran. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
