With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend, Barbara JoAnn (Orenzuk) Casto, age 74, of Harker Heights, Texas, on April 23, 2020, with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Peter and Josephine (Marino) Orenzuk in 1946, in Steubenville, Ohio. Barbara graduated from Weirton High School in 1964 and received an Associate’s Degree from Central Texas College in General Studies in 1993.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Homer H. Casto, of 55 years of marriage. They married October 1965 in North Carolina and relocated to Texas in 1968, where she had resided ever since. Barbara is survived by two children: Michael Casto and spouse Lisa Casto of Killeen, Texas, and Shelly Casto of Harker Heights, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Brandon Casto, Michaela Casto, Mallory Pope and spouse Zachary Pope, Matthew Childs, Jason Childs, and Merideth Childs; and four great-grandchildren: Myles Blanks, Riley Pope, Avery Pope, and Cecelia Childs.
Barbara lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, and a worker in the healthcare sector. Barbara worked in the Medical Technology field for over 45 years, beginning her career as a Medical Technician for Doctor Burrows Office, Killeen, Texas, then employed through Civil Service at Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas, and ended at Metroplex Hospital, Killeen, Texas. She loved her family and was very present in all of their activities from being a band parent, an active participant in Girl Scouts for over 20 years, an active member of her church: St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church, and an active member of the Harker Heights Senior Recreation Program (Senior 55 up group).
A viewing/visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2020, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Heritage Funeral Home located at 425E. Central Texas Expwy, Harker Heights, with a family-only burial at the Veteran’s Cemetery. Donations to cancer research in her name can be made in lieu of flower arrangements.
